How the calculator works

  1. Customs value = goods value + freight + insurance.
  2. Customs duty = customs value × duty rate.
  3. VAT base = customs value + customs duty + any other duties or taxes (including the declaration processing fee if selected).
  4. VAT = VAT base × 15%.
  5. Total duties and taxes = customs duty + other charges + VAT.

Example with illustrative figures

Goods worth SAR 100,000, freight of SAR 8,000 and insurance of SAR 1,000 give a customs value of SAR 109,000. At a 5% duty rate the duty is SAR 5,450, the VAT base SAR 114,450 and VAT SAR 17,167.50. Total duties and taxes: SAR 22,617.50.

Calculator questions

How is Saudi customs duty calculated?

Customs duty is the customs value of the goods multiplied by the duty rate for their tariff line. The customs value usually includes the price of the goods plus freight and insurance up to entry into Saudi Arabia, and the rate depends on the goods' HS code.

How is VAT on imports calculated?

VAT is charged at 15% on the customs value plus customs duty and any excise tax or other charges; VAT itself is not part of the base. It is paid when the goods enter the Kingdom, and a VAT-registered importer recovers it through the VAT return.

Is the calculator result final?

No. The result is an estimate for planning. The final amount is set by the customs declaration, based on the accepted value and the correct HS code. The calculator does not include additional fees, excise tax or anti-dumping duties unless you enter them under other charges.
